PAVE the Way — Volunteer Today

Every day, adults across East Texas take a bold step toward a brighter future by pursuing their education. As a volunteer with PAVE East Texas, you become part of that journey—providing encouragement, guidance, and the extra support they need to succeed. Whether you're helping someone learn to read, master English, or conquer math, your time and dedication have a lasting impact.

We offer several ways to get involved:

GED Services

  • Support adult learners as they prepare for the GED test (in English or Spanish), which covers four subjects: Reading/Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Volunteers can get involved through:

    • One-on-one tutoring

    • Small group tutoring

    • Teacher support

    • Math Bootcamp

    • Substitute Teaching

    • Remote support

    • College Prep

By offering guidance and encouragement, volunteers help students build confidence and gain the skills needed to pass their GED and reach their goals.

Basic Literacy Tutoring

  • Help adults develop fundamental reading and writing skills, focusing on those reading below a third-grade level. Volunteers work with adults who are learning to read for the first time or strengthening their basic literacy skills, opening doors to greater independence and new opportunities. Volunteers can support students through:

    • One-on-one tutoring

English Language Services

  • Work with English learners as they build confidence and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. Volunteers can get involved through:

    • One-on-one tutoring

    • Small group tutoring

    • Teacher support

    • Substitute Teaching

    • Conversational English

    • Remote support

Your support helps students navigate their English language journey, empowering them to communicate with confidence in their daily lives.

  • Our Family Literacy program, in partnership with Tyler Junior College and Tyler ISD at the Family Learning Center of Tyler, provides free quality childcare and educational services for families. While children learn in a credentialed preschool, parents attend GED or English Language classes, creating a supportive learning environment for the whole family.

Volunteers can make a difference by:

Your involvement helps both parents and children build strong foundations for a brighter future.
